I used to weight over 166 kilos only 11 months ago. I suffered from morbid obesity and I took a decition that would change my life. I decided to submitt myself to a weight-loss surgery.

To be sincere, I though that weight was something you could control by yourself. It took me about 3 or 4 years to admit I had to do something about it. I presented many of the over-weight related conditions - I suffered from a very delicate sleep apnea, so delicate I had to use an special machine to keep me alive and breathing while I sleeped during the night. My blood pression was high and I was at the border of becoming a diabetic. with only 35 años, I was afraid of taking part of the called "Juvenile Heart attack" statistics. A simple walk on the beach produced me such terrible pain.

But that wasn{t the factor that made me decide to have a bariatic surgery. I could hold the pain and adapt my life. But what was impossible to hold was not being able to go out with my three daughters. I though I couldn´t be near them to see them grow.

Then, when my personal doctor talked me about the weight-loss surgery, I decided to investigate everything about that subject. I talked to another patient that had submited himself to this procedure and with a few bariatric surgeons. I decided to sumbit myself to the "Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y" surgery, a procedure accomplished by Dr. David Nye, from Pensacola (Florida). He had done that kind of operations many times and asked me to write a 30-day diary to evaluate my situation.

One of the necessary conditions to be aproved for a bariatric surgery was o prove that I had tried many other ways to lose weight in the past, and believe me, I had tried. I tried diets, medicines, expensive wieght-loss meals. I found out later about the weight-loss surgery, It came accompanied to changes in my eating habits (what they call "a behaviour change"), it´s the only aproved method for controling weight at a long term, for someone who suffers from a severe obesity.. Then, my doctor and I concidered that the bariatric surgery was medically necessary.

I would had liked a procedure like the laparascopic procedure, but due to the ubicationof some of my internal organs, an open procedure was taken place. Anyways, even so, I could go back to work after 3 weeks and a half.

The results were just incredible. I lost 63 kilos in 12 months. My work collegues didn´t recognized me at the begining. At least 5 persons told me that I looked just like the actor Michael Keaton. I can play soccer. I love to go shooping. go out on vacations, I made long walks and felt very good afterwards. everything is better now. But what really marked the diference were my daughters. They are incredible. I ride the bicycle, play soccer and have long walks at the beach with my little ones. One day, one of them said to me: "I´m very happy that you are btter, daddy ". I am too.

Like in any surgical procedure , weight-loss surgery can present risks. The every patient´s result can vary and there are no indicators of results. Patients must consult their doctors to determine if this procedure is the most indicated for your condition in particular.

"I didn´t wanted to go on like this for the rest of my life ".
